The UN says Thank you for your service

They wanted to show their support and gratitude for all they do.

The United Nations (UN) honoured public servants on the Covid-19 front lines on 23 June. It was Africa Public Service Day.

To celebrate, humanitarian organisation Ashraful Aid honoured our own fronliners at the Bramley police station with a hearty lunch. Media Liaison officer Ahmed Ismail was on the ground with his colleagues adhering to social distancing guidelines while feeding some hungry officers. “I went out, myself with some colleagues and we just wanted to say thank you to those on the front lines that has been servicing us all the time and especially now during this pandemic.”

Having established a close relationship with the officers, they wanted to show their support and gratitude for all they do. “We felt that as an organisation, our office falls directly under the Bramley precinct, we made the necessary calls and organised the lunch.”

Over 80 officers enjoyed a delicious plate of biryani together, yet apart in the sunshine. “We were welcomed with open arms. When we got there, they already recognised us because at the start of the lockdown we santised the station. Jokingly they one officer said ‘It must be a lekker biryani’ and it so happened that it was, so that worked out well,” joked Ismail.

Motivated to keep doing good, Ismail said that the work they do is an indescribable feeling.”It is something that comes naturally and from the heart. It’s just fulfilling feeling to know that you are helping another person. The appreciation shown brings joy to the heart and a smile to the face. To know that in some way God is using us to alleviate the conditions of another human being,” he said
