CPF and police make their presence felt at hijacking hotspots

The CPF decided that more had to be done at these intersections, so they pleaded for the help of the Randburg police.

Due to an increased call for greater visibility at hijacking hotpots, members of the Randburg and Sandton Community Police Forums (CPF) joined Randburg police officers and security companies for a joint operation to mobilise their crime-fighting visibility.

The members conducted the operation on 19 June at the notorious William Nicol Drive off-ramp onto the N1 highway in Bryanston.”For the past two or three weeks, we have been getting numerous reports via community members that have fallen victim to robbers at intersections in the area. These reports are disturbing, as the majority of them claim that the suspects were armed,” said Randburg CPF spokesperson Pommie Lutchman.

The CPF decided that more had to be done at these intersections, so they pleaded for the help of the Randburg police. “We decided to hold an operation with them and security providers with the aim to crack down on any presence of criminals in the area, and to create a visible presence at the intersection to let the public know that we are there for them,” said Lutchman.

Various vehicles were stopped and searched for anything suspicious. “We would like to thank everyone involved in the operation on the day, and we hope that our presence was felt.”
