Randburg police are encouraging drivers to be vigilant after an attempted robbery occurred at the corner of Main Road and William Nicol Drive in Bryanston.
Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said five suspects, one of whom had a firearm, approached the victim who had stopped her car on the road and threatened her with the weapon.
“They demanded her belongings. Luckily all the doors were locked and she managed to drive away. This type of modus operandi often happens at the intersections when the robots are red, more especially in the peak hours and along main roads,” said Maja.
The Randburg police would like to advise motorists and pedestrians to be more cautious and careful when carrying valuable items.
Maja offered the following advice:
- Do not leave your valuables exposed inside your vehicle
- Always observe your surroundings and be alert of suspicious people loitering around intersections
- Do not use your cellphone in secluded areas
- When shopping, make sure that your cell phone is concealed, and if inside a handbag, make sure that the bag is properly closed or sealed
- When leaving your vehicle, test the handles to ascertain if doors are locked and no valuables are lying around as they attract potential criminals.
