Wild Lions Club host successful quiz night

The club, who regularly supports the vulnerable communities of Hillbrow and Yeoville, received an influx of calls for support during the lockdown.

Nothing can stop these lions from giving back. Supporters young and old came together for a night of fun as the Wild Lions Club of Johannesburg’s hosted its first-ever virtual quiz night fundraiser on 13 June.

According to club president Mark Meltzer, the club, who regularly supports the vulnerable communities of Hillbrow and Yeoville, received an influx of calls for support during the lockdown. “We discussed fundraising options and decided on a Zoom quiz evening as we can’t have a live event with guests at a venue,” he said. There were also two teams representing the Frida Hartley Shelter in Yeoville.

With the help of quizmaster Marc Wegkamp, the evening was an absolute success with an estimated R3 000 raised between several Wild Lions clubs in Centurion, Centurion Lifestyle, Alberton, Edenvale, Kensington and The Wilds Lions Club.”This is the first charity quiz evening and we hope to increase the number of entrants in forthcoming events.”A team from Alberton Lions Club came in first place, followed by The Wilds Lions Club in second place and a second-team from Alberton finished in third place.

“We bought fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries today (14 June) from the proceeds for a feeding scheme for the needy and we are already planning a second event in July, combining Bingo and a quiz to raise more funds,” Meltzer concluded.
