Nothing like a mother’s love

Ashtyn Mackenzie, editor of the Sandton Chronicle writes:
Maybe your mom is like my mom. Mother’s Day to her (or so she said) was just another way to sell cards and flowers. She never expected anything but so help you if you didn’t give her at least a macaroni necklace or, in later years, a box of chocolates.
A mother figure can be anyone, from your gogo to your tannie, a teacher, sister, or even your dad.
Like Professor Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone said, “Love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark.”
I have many moms; an office mom, a friend mom, my sister (who sometimes thinks she’s my mom), and then my real mom.
For those of you who have lost your mothers, the gaping hole left in your heart seems like it can never be filled. I knew she was always my best friend. Like with any friendship, there comes a balance. Someone who would hand me the biggest laugh of the day while being able to simultaneously shake me up with brutal honesty. It is the little things in everyday life that make me miss her the most. I wish I could have told her.
So, with that in mind and especially in light of recent circumstances in the world, the Sandton Chronicle team wanted to give others a chance to do just this. Grade 5s from Sandton primary schools were invited to write an essay for their mothers. No matter how old you get, ‘I love you, mom’ is always the coolest thing to say, in our books.
Reading these essays made our team’s tummies hurt from laughter and hearts’ beam with joy. Every essay was a win for your moms!
