Responding to a call from the station’s commander, Muhsin Hoosen, the team used the highest level of decontamination to disinfect and sanitise the station and its fleet of emergency vehicles.

In addition, Hoosen and his team underwent hygiene and sanitation training which allowed them to gain additional knowledge and a greater understanding of how the virus is spread.

The Scientology volunteers programme is aimed at providing disaster relief across the world.

According to spokesperson Sandile Hlayisi, the 205-member team have been working 12 hours daily since the middle of March to decontaminate the offices of senior members of essential services, police stations, orphanages, old age homes, shelters and other at-risk areas in the community.

Fana Mnguni, divisional chief of operations at the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, sought out the Scientology Volunteer Ministers to partner with the city in decontaminating all of its frontline essential services’ buildings and vehicles in Gauteng.

“We have a highly effective solution in hand and with everyone working as one big national team to stop the spread, we, as South Africans can be stronger than Covid-19,” Mnguni said.

To date, these five other fire stations have also been decontaminated:

  • Randburg Fire Station
  • Jabulani Fire Station
  • Midrand Fire Station
  • Diepsloot Fire Station
  • Brixton Fire Station.
