Business owner finds ways to survive during lockdown

SANDOWN – A local business owner finds new and relevant ways to keep her business afloat by using online services to get in touch with her clients and help them during the lockdown.

Many businesses have had to close during the 21-day lockdown and owners have to find new ways to keep their business relevant and afloat.

Sandown resident and business founder of Kama Productions Culinary and Events, Mashadi Mashiane has been finding it hard running her business since the Covid-19 outbreak. Her business is multi-diverse hospitality, special events and integrated marketing company established 10 years ago.

“The business has not only lost income but traction more than ever before in the 10 years of running Kama Productions. The Covid-19 crisis has put a lot of strain on daily activities and forced me to reevaluate how I do things from internal management processes to relating with the outside world,” said Mashiane.

Mashiane added that the outbreak has pulled her out of her comfort zone and she started thinking outside the box on how to remain active after this pandemic. She’s had to learn to cope and use this time to accelerate her marketing activities and keep in touch with her clients, using other methods to get more clients and consults over webinars and online activities.

“In terms of cooking, some of my clients are not well versed with serving their families, fulfilling meals and this is where I come in providing tricks and hacks and, for some clients, phone calls or online menus and recipes.”

Other services such as corporate and celebratory occasions are completely on lockdown. Only the food business is currently sustainable online.

As for her employees, they are all complying with the national quarantine requirements. “I believe this too shall pass and a lot of change in how we conduct ourselves, the order of our processes as well as health and general compliance. This is a major change and paradigm shift,” concluded Mashiane.
