Grayston Preparatory School unites to create a rainbow of hope

MORNINGSIDE – Grayston Preparatory School unites under a rainbow of hope.

Grayston Preparatory School community is united under a rainbow a hope during the lockdown.

The school invited learners and parents to create colourful pieces of artwork that envision a rainbow of hope to symbolise ‘looking toward the future under African skies’, explained the school’s spokesperson Nicole Liebenberg.

Since the government announced the closure of all schools across the country, Grayston Preparatory felt that it was important for the learners to feel as though they were still united as a family, even from the comfort of their homes.

“The children could draw one, it could be made from recyclables or a collection of things they had at home – like tinned foods or fruit and veg or pencil crayons or clothing – it could be made with natural objects or food, the more creative the better,” Liebenberg added.

The rainbows, or a photograph of it, were to be displayed in a prominent window of their homes.

The Grayston community also came together to support the Rays of Hope Foundation which aims to provide hampers to vulnerable families across Alexandra. “The Grayston community raised a generous R47 900 towards this worthy cause,” said Liebenberg.

“This generous donation will enable us to provide over fifty vulnerable families in Alex with much-needed food during this very difficult time,” concluded Sandy Chapman, the financial manager from Rays of Hope.
