Sandown Clinic provides calm environment for Covid-19 testing

SANDOWN – Sandown Clinic has been identified as one of the facilities in the area where the public can get tested for Covid-19.

It was smooth sailing at Sandown Clinic following the facility’s activation for Covid-19 testing.

Almost 79 clinics across the city were fully equipped to take in members of the community who may require testing for the novel coronavirus.

An operations tent has been set up by the Department of Health to support the clinic in Sandton CBD. According to Sandton Central Management District, this will help isolate patients with suspected coronavirus symptoms who visit the clinic.

The tent is not open to the public and it is managed by Sandown Clinic – who goes into the tent for testing or isolation is at the discretion of the clinic.

Spokesperson for the City of Joburg, Nthatisi Modingoane said a number of operational changes have been adopted by the clinic to better control the clinic’s environment. “Patients stable on chronic medicines will be issued with a two to three-month supply at a time. It should be noted that due to the prevailing circumstances, there are medicine shortages and in some cases, medicine could be out of stock but alternatives will be communicated,” he said.

Vaccinations will continue to be administered to pregnant mothers, children and patients receiving acute care, including prevention programmes.

The department has also implemented a number of measures to decongest the clinics:

  • Increase medication pickup points across the regions – working closely with partners
  • Medication can be collected at Sharp-left containers placed at clinic grounds
  • The clinic is open on Monday to Friday from 7.30am – 4pm and limited hours on Saturdays.
