SA Jewish Board Deputies applauds Ramaphosa’s decisive action

JOBURG – The South African Jewish Board of Deputies said their members will be notified regarding kashrut and Pesach after they get legal clarity.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced last night (23 March) that a 21-day nationwide lockdown will take effect to combat the rising numbers of cases of Covid-19, which currently stands at 554.

He also announced that essential services such as healthcare, supermarkets and pharmacies will still be operating during the lockdown.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) applauded Ramaphosa’s decisive action. The board said in a statement, “These important steps are of critical importance in giving our country a realistic prospect of dealing with this pandemic. We as a community need to be disciplined and responsible at all times in abiding by these measures so that achieve the required outcomes.”

According to the statement, the measures to be put in place during the lockdown is needed to get on top of this virus and ultimately for lives to be saved.

Members of the board will get clarity around kashruth and Pesach after the board obtains legal advice surrounding these issues.
