Iconic Liliesleaf Farm closes for one month due to COVID-19
RIVONIA – Fifty-five years ago, 10 freedom fighters were arrested at Liliesleaf Farm.
From tomorrow (18 March), the iconic Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia will close its doors for one month due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Liliesleaf Farm has been marked a heritage site for fellow South Africans. It’s the place where the Rivonia trial members were captured and met their fate.
The closure comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa issued the restriction of movement on Sunday evening (15 March).
Conference coordinator, Lulamile Zulu said, “We at Liliesleaf value and respect our client/s health. In order to adhere to the above, we will be closing Liliesleaf as from Wednesday, 18 March 2020 until Tuesday, 14 April 2020.”
She added they would take all precautionary steps to ensure that on return to Liliesleaf, visitors would be safe and well taken care of.
“We haven’t been affected, but we want to avoid the risk as we receive people from all over the country and even the world,” said Lulamilu.
“We will be listening out for announcements from the government but as it stands Liliesleaf will close its doors from tomorrow.”
