Parent held at gunpoint while waiting for her child at St Stithians Girls’ College

LYME PARK – Police are investigating an armed robbery at the school.

In a statement released by the rector at St Stithians Girls’ College, Dr Tim Nuttall,  an armed robbery occurred at the school.

According to the message sent out to the ‘Saints Family’ on 24 February, at around 2.40pm a parent was robbed inside of the school.

“An armed robbery happened in the Girls’ College car park just before pick-up time. One of our parents was held up and personal items were stolen. Our parent’s arm was injured in the process and has been attended to by the College’s medic team. As soon as Girls’ College reception was alerted, the Girls’ College students who had begun to leave their classrooms were taken back to their classrooms,” the statement read.

The Randburg Police Station’s spokesperson Captain Maja Makgowanyana confirmed the incident.

“Suspects approached the victim while she waited for her child to leave school. It is alleged that one suspect threatened her with a knife while the other wielded a handgun.”

He added that her jewellery was stolen and that the Randburg police are investigating the incident.

“Our security director was alerted immediately, but not before the robbers made their getaway in a car through the One and All gate. Due to pick-up time, the booms were up when the car drove in and out. At 2.45pm the decision was taken to allow the girls to leave.

This traumatic incident is being fully and urgently investigated and leads followed up. The safety and security of all on our campus are a top priority,” the statement from Dr Nuttall continued.
