The City of Johannesburg made a visit to Marlboro Garden Combined School on 4 February to address learners on the Joburg Council’s student council programme, including announcing some new student council members.
Speaker of the Council, Nonceba Molwele was excited to address the learners for the start of the City’s student council representative programmes for 2020 as it falls under the Office of the Speaker. Marlboro Gardens Combined School had a 100 per cent pass rate for matrics of 2019, Molwele said she would like to see that for the Class of 2020 as well.
The Speaker also had a chance to speak with the school’s principal AE Van Zyl who in part said the school is quite lucky to have dedicated and professional teachers for the over 1 400 learners in the school, adding that they are the backbone for the school, watch:

In partnership with the Joburg Council and the student council, the City’s initiative is to have the student council representatives from different schools help mentor other learners across Joburg.
During her address to learners, Molwele said she would like to see the student council programme trade more knowledge between learners and schools to build a better society and for the betterment of the country as a whole.
Two learners elected to be part of the student council at Marlboro Gardens Combined School were Jade van Vyk and Bonolo Mashike. Jade said her biggest goal is to listen to learners who think their voices aren’t heard, watch:
