Another fatality in Sandton due to crime

SANDTON – A 72-year-old man was robbed and fatally shot in Morningside.


A case of robbery and murder has been opened at the Sandton Police station this weekend.

Sandton Police Station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer confirmed the incident and said, “It is alleged that the 72-year-old victim was robbed as he pulled in his driveway. The suspects pulled up behind him with a white VW SUV and approached the victim.”

He added that they then robbed him of his watch valued at R1 million. During the scuffling, they shot the victim.

“After the incident, the victim went to a nearby hospital, where he died of the shooting,” said Meyer.

Outraged and angry community members took to Twitter after anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee tweeted about the incident which allegedly took place in Morningside in Sandton.

Some community members raised questions about other less important crimes being prioritized while others shared their condolences to the family.

No arrests have been made and the matter is under investigation.
