Prosperous future for the 102

BRYANSTON – Councillor David Potter touches on the significant changes which had occurred in Ward 102 this past year.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter remains optimistic with regards to the potential of his ward as he reflects on the highs and lows of the community.

The ward, which includes areas such as Randburg CBD, Blairgowrie, Ferndale, Bordeaux, Hurlingham Manor and Bryanston, has seen much change over the years. “Much has been achieved in Ward 102 during 2019, and much remains to be done,” he said.

Over the years, the ward received significant capital funding which has allowed for a number of major upgrades such as the lighting project on Peter Place. “Peter Place has become a main arterial road carrying an enormous amount of traffic both day and night. The installation of these street lights will bring much-needed safety to both pedestrians, cyclists and motorists,” he added.

Another significant upgrade came in the form of a pipe replacement on Lyme Park and Mill Hill. A resident’s petition was submitted to the City following a large number of burst pipes in the area which resulted in significant water loss.

But one of the aspects which remain to be of great concern for the ward is a crime, said Potter. Last year saw the increase of ‘robot robberies’ at a number of busy intersections – the corner of William Nicol and Republic Road, in particular, has become a target area.

While Potter added that he has engaged with the respective police stations in the area, residents themselves are encouraged to remain active. “Residents are encouraged to engage with their local SAPS, SAPS station commanders and the respective Crime Prevention Forums (CPF) and hold them to account. Active resident involvement in the CPF is critically important. SAPS does not fall under the oversight of ward councillors.”

Potter would also like to encourage all residents to familiarise and engage with their respective ward councillors on matters affecting the street, suburb or ward.”Remember that ward councillors are your link to Council, but may not physically resolve matters or give instructions to any City official, but merely represent issues in various fora,” Potter said.

Ward 102 looks forward to a prosperous year ahead.
