A musical blessing of Redhill School

SANDTON – Redhill student Simphiwe Mzulwini is an up and coming musician.

Ending the year off with a bang is Redhill School learner Simphiwe Mzulwini.

Blessed with an angelic voice, Simphiwe aka Simps sets the stage on fire every time she performs.

“People call me Simps, well mostly friends, hence my stage name being Simps because I want the audience to feel like they are my friends.” she said.

At the age of 17, Simphiwe recently had her first listening session in Maboneng and plans on releasing an album early next year. Describing her sound as soulful, she’d like to bring positive vibes through her music.

Watch:

“I don’t want to limit myself to a genre, the type of music I make is feel-good music, groovy in the zone type of sounds. It’s a little bit of new school and Afro beats merged together.”

Starting in school events to the big stage, singing is a form of escapism for her.

“Singing for me is about a feeling and it was an escape for me. I recognised that it’s like that for so many other people so why should I deprive people of my talent. My current producer Tate Mhunduru from Rayna Music Group was the one that pushed me into pursuing it.”

Her school has also played a huge role in terms of her stage presence and self-confidence.

“I love how liberal Redhill is and how it gives everyone a voice. I think without that school I would still be in a shell keeping to myself, not being able to speak my mind. Now I’m able to express my feelings.”

Going into Grade 11 next year, Simphiwe is grateful for the opportunities she has had this year and looks forward to getting fit, doing better at school and making more music in 2020.
