Peter Place gets City upgrade

LYME PARK – Ward 102 councillor David Potter applauds City Power and Joburg Water for the infrastructural improvements to Peter Place.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter has commended City entities Joburg Water and City Power for bringing a ‘noticeable change’ to Peter Place in Lyme Park following a number of infrastructural problems.

According to Potter, following the burst water pipes and a resident’s petition submitted to the City, Joburg Water recently installed new pipes to replace the ageing infrastructure along Peter Place and other nearby roads. “Whilst the new water pipes are not yet connected and in use, tie-in of this new infrastructure is expected soon. The limited replacement of water pipes, unfortunately, does not address all the roads facing on-going bursts, the replacement of some pipes will alleviate some of the problem.”

In addition, City Power has this week commenced with the installation of street lights along Peter Place and other neighbouring roads following the submission of the Integrated Development Plan early last year to the City and the entity.

“Peter Place has become a main arterial road carrying an enormous amount of traffic both day and night. The installation of these street lights will bring much-needed safety to both pedestrians, cyclists and motorists,” Potter added.

“Whilst the infrastructure backlog in the City of Joburg remains large, it is encouraging to see noticeable improvements such as the resurfacing of roads, replacement of water and sewer pipes and the installation of new street lights in Ward 102 and many other wards across the City.”
