French school embraces its diversity

MORNINGSIDE – The Lycée Jules Verne International French School in Sandton celebrated 74 nationalities as represented by its student body.

The Lycée Jules Verne International French School in Morningside celebrated the diversity of its student body at its annual World Culture Tour on 22 November.

The Sandton campus currently has over 1 200 learners from the ages of two to 18 which represent 74 different nationalities from all across the world.

Each parent group came dressed up to represent their culture. While some parents chose to share arts and crafts, others set out a full menu inspired by their home country. All of the learners got to experience the tour for themselves throughout the school day.

Many of the pre-primary learners were tasked with moving from country to country with a questionnaire where they learnt the significance of the country’s history and important elements such as its infrastructure and flag.

Most of the high school learners, however, saw this as a tasting experience, grabbing a bite to eat from each table and platter. The worldwide experience was also open to the parents who, in turn, had their own little adventure.

School communications manager Nonhlanhla Kunene added that the school takes the utmost pride it’s in students and where they come from. “This is a safe space for the learners to be who they are and learn from each other in the process.”
