‘Powerful’ women unite

PARKMORE – Leading female entrepreneurs gathered at the Field and Study Recreation Centre for an afternoon of insight and networking.

Female entrepreneurs and leaders in the oil, construction, agriculture, tourism and financial aid industries united for a day of insight and support at the Women’s Business Conference which was held at the Field and Study Centre’s recreation hall on 23 November.

Amongst the long list of speakers ready to deliver a masterclass on the female entrepreneurial sphere was AST Global Training South Africa’s CEO Nnema Chibwe who has become a prominent figure in the drive to promote female entrepreneurs.

According to Chibwe, the conference targets women for the potential which is quite often overlooked in the business world. She added that this perspective can change once women are prepared to uplift one another.

“The target on ladies is deliberate because women are very powerful, women have been known to build churches and women can build a business collectively.”

With this in mind, Chibwe added that even with the support and assistance, you have to work hard to get to where you want to be. “When you set your mind on something we should not entertain hurdles, for example how we lie by putting things off. Before you know it, another year passes. So right here, this platform is about telling each other how we can just get up and start.”

Chibwe uses an example of a clothing item which may be too small at the time but she still keeps it in her closest. “We [ladies] will never let go of this clothing item because we tell ourselves that we will get into it again no matter what. Similar to running a business, we cannot say that it is not easy, it is easy if you apply yourself and you put your mind to it.”
