IN PICTURES: 8 injured and 2 airlifted from structural fire on Rivonia Boulevard

RIVONIA – Emer-G-Med tweeted paramedics responded to a gas explosion on Rivonia Boulevard on the afternoon of 30 November and multiple patients with serious injuries had been treated.

A structural fire ravaged buildings on Rivonia Boulevard, close to 9th Avenue, in Rivonia on the afternoon of 30 November.

Sandton Chronicle journalist, Chante Ho Hip, visited the scene of the aftermath of the fire and took this video:

The media liaison for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, Nana Radebe, said nine shops were impacted by the blaze.

Radebe also confirmed eight people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals with two patients airlifted.

Earlier in the day as the news of the fire broke out, this website reported that according to Crime Air Network on Twitter, it was alleged that some have been injured in the fire and all services were on the scene.

Emer-G-Med further tweeted that they responded to a gas explosion on Rivonia Boulevard. “Multiple patients with serious injuries were treated and transported. The Netcare helicopter was activated to airlift the patient. Authorities and the fire department are still on scene,” read part of Emer-G-Med’s tweet.

One tweet was of the Netcare 911 helicopter landing on the scene.

There had been allegations on Twitter that it had taken the fire department over an hour to respond, however, this is yet to be confirmed and the Sandton Chronicle is following up on this information with relevant authorities.

Ag that early stage, some had already started to predict the cost of the damage. The Sandton Chronicle will update as soon as more information comes to light.
