Saint’s Joshua Eccles excels

LYME PARK – Joshua Eccles has had a very busy and successful year in his sport.


St Stithians Boys’ Preparatory School’s Joshua Eccles has had a very busy and successful year in his sport.

Joshua has just arrived back from the United States where he competed at the World Biathle and Triathle World Championships against over 40 different countries from around the world, where he brought home one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

Joshua also travelled to Budapest in September to compete in the World Laser-Run Championships where he secured a bronze medal.

On top of that, Joshua has this year alone has brought home the titles of South African Champion, SA Biathle Champ, SA Triathle Champ, SA Tetrathlon Champ and SA Laser-Run Champ. Joshua in amongst his busy training schedule also secured a spot in his district hockey team and his provincial water polo team.

The school congratulated Joshua, saying that he has been an amazing ambassador to his province, school and country, and his sportsmanship on and off the field to his teammates and competitors is commendable.

Joshua said, “I am looking forward to some challenging years ahead as there are many strength differences in the U15 age group, however I will continue to love what I do and train hard for my future goal, the Youth Olympics of 2022, and I look forward to many more years of making amazing new friends from all over the world.”

Joshua’s name has been put forward by the Gauteng Modern Pentathlon Association to be considered for inclusion in the Sampa Olympic Development Team for the next Youth Olympic Games preparation which will take place in Dakar, Senegal in 2022.
