Ashraful Aid bring cheer

MARLBORO GARDENS – Humanitarian organisation Ashraful Aid visit the children of the Sithandiwe Disabled Care Centre for a day of fun and food.

Filled with smiles and enthusiasm, a volunteer group from the humanitarian group, Ashraful Aid, visited the children of the Sithandiwe Disabled Care Centre in Alexandra.

Ashraful meaning ‘honourable’, the organisation has become a household name amongst local South African and African communities for its outreach.

According to Ayesha Wadee, the team was met with eager, smiling and excited faces. “The Ashraful Aid team coordinated a fun day for the children which consisted of fun-filled activities, story time, songs and chants and ended off with a wholesome meal which was provided as part of the ‘Donate a Plate’ initiative,” Wadee added.

She added the youngsters were not only happy to have ‘yummy meals’ but they were also excited to have the volunteers join in and spend time with them during the many planned activities.

The Sithandiwe Disabled Care Centre was started as a family initiative. The centre currently cares for just over 40 disabled children – 18 of these children are permanent residents while the remaining children are day learners as they do not have the means or facilities at home to assist them.

“The staff of Sithandiwe are loving and caring people who sacrifice their time towards helping these children, more community visits and donations would really benefit them.”
