Crawford’s own mixed marital arts prodigy

BENMORE – Crawford Sandton learner Tyler Lazarus is awarded the highest grading in his category for jiujitsu.


Crawford School Sandton learner Tyler Lazarus recently achieved the highest grading in his category, an orange belt, in Brazilian jiujitsu which was awarded by Professor Yaron Kairon and Storm Conrad at the Gracie Barra in Illovo.

According to his father, Richard Lazarus, the youngster has always had a passion for mixed martial arts, “Tyler began fighting and training in mixed martial arts at the age of four and straight away showed exceptional ability and talent.”

Tyler began training and learned how to box, wrestle and grapple. He showed remarkable talent and at the young age of 12 and now trains in Brazilian jiujitsu.

“He has an undefeated record of 7–0 and has recently won two gold medals at the Arnold Classic. He has won two Mall Of Africa ADCC competitions and received gold medals in both,” his father said.

Tyler was awarded an orange belt, which according to the Jiu Jitsu belt system, is the highest grading in the junior category (15 years or under). “He has fought in higher weight divisions and has won and still been undefeated,” Richard concluded.
