In tweets: #Campaigning4Cancer continues to raise awareness for lung cancer

SANDTON – Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women, in men it is prostate cancer.

In the National Cancer Registry, lung cancer is rated low for both men and women.

Sandton oncologist Dr Sze Wai Chan, said that the most common cancer found in women is breast cancer and the most common cancer found in men is prostate cancer. The symptoms of lung cancer are extremely similar to tuberculosis. “This is a common misconception and a contributor to lung cancer’s low rank on the National Cancer Registry.”

Dr Ronwyn van Eeden from the Medical Oncology Centre in Rosebank said that oncologists do not just treat cancer itself – it becomes about a patient’s well-being and overall quality of life.

“Certain types of cancer can spread to various parts of the body, for example, the brain, liver or bones,” she added.
