Taxi driver arrested for bumping a JMPD officer

JOHANNESBURG – If anyone bumps or injures a JMPD officer, whether the officer is on duty or off duty, such a person will be arrested and will have to face the full might of the law, Chief of the JMPD David Tembe said.

According to the spokesperson of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, a taxi driver was arrested on Saturday, 2 November, for bumping over a Johannesburg Metro Police officer at the Grayston off-ramp in Sandton.

Minnaar said that the incident occurred at approximately 4.20pm while officers were conducting a routine roadside check.

“The officer was taken to Sunninghill Hospital, with injuries to his right foot and left shoulder, and the taxi is being detained at Bramley Police Station for reckless and negligent driving as well as for failing to comply with instruction by an officer,” said Minnaar.

The Chief of JMPD David Tembe said, “If anyone bumps or injures a JMPD officer, whether the officer is on duty or off duty, then such a person will definitely be arrested and will have to face the full might of the law”.
