Learners at Bryanston Library learn about animals

BRYANSTON – Learners at Bryanston Library learnt about certain animals after Johannesburg Zoo members visited and brought animals along.

Some of the furry and scaly inhabitants of the Johannesburg Zoo visited the Bryanston Library on 30 September. The visit was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Apart from hosting events aimed at, and on behalf of, the local community, the Bryanston Library promotes a specific theme each month. The latest theme on display at the library is Transport. Reference material on the theme has been placed in the display cabinet at the library entrance.

Becoming a member of the library is simple – just bring along your ID and proof of residence and ask the staff for assistance. There is a five-day waiting period before you receive your membership card, which enables you to borrow library material. Membership is only required to borrow library material, the library can be used without membership, for example, to study or read quietly.

For the children, Bryanston Library offers a wonderful and well-stocked children’s section. Storytelling is held on the first Saturday morning of each month from 11am to 12pm and every Wednesday afternoon from 2.30pm to 3pm. Local schools can also request the library staff for storytelling services. Unique to Bryanston Library is its Puzzle Club – hundreds of puzzles are available to members of the club. To join the Puzzle Club all you need to do is buy a brand-new puzzle and donate it to the library.

The library offers book lovers and learners a wide range of adult fiction, non-fiction, educational and reference material, including access to Lexis Library and academic journals hosted by EbscoHost database. OverDrive and PressReader facilities are available for those who enjoy e-books, newspapers and other digital media.

If you are looking for an easy way to stay up to date with all the latest books, then look no further than Bryanston Library’s book club, the Friends of Bryanston Library (FOBL). To join the club, you will need to pay an annual amount equivalent to the price of a new book.

The club holds a book sale at the library on the first Saturday of every month from 9am to 12.30 m. Books for adults and children are available for sale from R5 to R20 per book. The dates for the book sale for the rest of the year are as follows: 5 October, 2 November and 7 December.
