Kids Haven expands

BRYANSTON – Kids Haven Centre in Bryanston has added a new employee to their team, ready to welcome donations on a Saturday.

Kids Haven Donation Centre in Bryanston has extended their working days to Saturdays.

The public is now welcome to bring donations of second-hand clothing and household items to the centre on Saturdays. The donation centre started operating officially on 1 October.

Joining the team is Nomfundo Baloyi who will be opening the centre every Saturday. Baloyi will gladly receive donations from school learners wanting to earn community hours for the support of vulnerable children.

Learners are also welcome to bring their home-cooked meals, birthday cakes, biscuits and bags of second-hand clothing to the centre. In return, Baloyi will log their details or provide them with a letter confirming their support. Kids Haven survives on the generous contributions and donations that they receive from community members, as well as the goodwill and support of those who willingly donate their time and professional help.

Assistant fundraiser Connie Biyela said, “We felt that by opening on a Saturday will [encourage] more residents and the public since it’s a weekend and they not occupied.”

Biyela pleaded with residents to bring their unwanted items during the week and on Saturdays. “Larger items can be collected from homes or offices by Kids Haven’s delivery vehicle during office hours on weekdays.

“All the donations left at the Kids Haven Centre is later taken to a children’s home in Benoni which caters for homeless children.”
