Funds raised at the event will be used to hold workshops aimed at motivating and providing learners with the necessary tools to succeed in the future and provide bursaries for selected applicants.

The charity organisation further provides information on accessible healthcare in communities as well as soliciting funds from corporates to provide free sanitary towels to impoverished schools in the country.

The keynote speaker at the event was MMC for Health and Social Development Mpho Phalatse who said women were full of compassion. “It’s what we are born with as women because being a woman is something no one can take away from you.”

Phalatse also reminded women how academically gifted they were. She gave an example of this by referring to the movie Hidden Figures which is about three African-American women who were the three lead mathematicians at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa).

“These women were so good that some of the astronauts refused to go into outer space without those women saying it’s safe to do so. This was a male-dominated field but here you have women who understood that we have no limits, they understood their inherited potential and productivity.”

Zulu outlined the importance of the event. “Life is already difficult, and becoming a community that empowers others is vital. The solutions we may need in our society could be hidden in someone who isn’t aware of their capabilities. This event is also aimed at creating a ripple effect of uplifting our communities and society at large.

“I hope to inspire more people by gaining bigger speaking platforms. Lastly, I will be working with more organisations to empower more of our girls.”
