Crawford College hosts heritage fundraiser

SANDTON – Learners, parents and faculty members came out in their numbers to show their support.

Crawford College joined in on the Heritage Day celebrations on 19 September with a festival to showcase the school’s rich culture and raise funds for its matric Class of 2020. Learners, parents and faculty members came out in their numbers to show their support.

According to deputy principal Tammy Pannall, there are over 30 different cultures that make up the Crawford family.

Joining in on the festivities, the school invited learners near and far to showcase their expertise. “The piano and violin recital by Chi-Chi Juan, a Grade 8 student who has been invited to play at Carnegie Hall, and Katrina Tse, who flew in from Hong Kong, was captivating,” Pannall said.

Crawford’s sister school, Fideltas Secondary, presented a choir performance accompanied by IsiZulu and SiSwati dance routines. “We celebrated Crawford’s Scottish heritage with a ceremony and procession of bagpipers and Scottish dancers,” she said.

The Grade 11 learners were proud of what they had achieved, having organised everything themselves. “We were honestly surprised at how many people came. I’m sure all the Grade 11s are just excited to see how much money we raised for our matric dance,” said fellow learner, Charlotte Adams.
