WATCH: Robbers hijack a car on Fredman Drive

SANDTON – The suspects managed to hijack a VW Polo which was later found abandoned a few kilometres from the scene.


A motorist on Fredman Drive in Sandton experienced a horrific ordeal after being hijacked by three suspects.

According to a picture tweeted by Yusuf Abramjee, the suspects bumped their car into a black Mercedes Benz, whereafter they abandoned the car.

In a released statement, Captain Kay Makhubele said that the police are investigating cases of robbery, attempted hijacking and hijacking following an incident in Sandton on Thursday, 03 October around 6pm.

A video circulating on Twitter shows the armed suspects dressed in black hijacking a white vehicle, while gunshots can be heard in the background.

Sandton Police corporate communications officer Captain Granville Meyer said, “I can confirm that the incident happened and three robbery cases were opened at our station.” Meyer also revealed that the car hijacked was recovered in Kramerville.

“No arrests have been made and the case is under investigation,” he said.

Makhubele also said that preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a black Mercedes Benz was forced to stop his car after a black Ford Fiesta drove into his car. Three suspects allegedly alighted from the Ford Fiesta and robbed him of his Rolex watch.

“The suspects allegedly abandoned their car and attempted to hijack a BMW during which time a shootout ensued between the owner of the BMW and the suspects,” said Makhubele.

Makhubele said that the suspects managed to hijack a VW Polo which was later found abandoned a few kilometres from the scene.
