MEC Mamabolo promises water will be restored at Gautrian Sandton Station by tomorrow

MIDRAND– The provincial MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mambolo addressed the media on the Gautrain Sandton station water cuts that have crippled the station

Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo addressed the media at Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) offices in Midrand on Wednesday 2 October on the outcome of Gautrain Sandton Station court process.

Mamabolo confirmed that the water will be restored on Thursday (3 October) saying he will visit the Gautrain station tomorrow to make sure that the water has been restored.

The City of Johannesburg and Bombela Concession Company reached an agreement on the installation for a separate meter, meaning GMA will now directly deal with the City, paying their utility bill directly to them, cutting out the middle man, Cedar Park the station’s landowner.

Executive Mayor of the City Herman Mashaba confirmed that they had agreed to instal the new meter within two days of the Bombela Concession Company paying the City R136, 000, “I can confirm that the City has received said payment.”

Mamabolo said Gautrain is looking for an alternative for water supply to avoid this from happening again.

The City and Bombela were at loggerheads early last month in September after the City cut their water supply due to an R8 million unpaid utility bill.

MEC added that if the water is not restored, GMA has a court order of contempt ready for the City.
