Lesotho Highlands Water Project planned maintenance will go ahead

JOBURG – The maintenance will take place from 1 October to 30 November.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has called on Gauteng residents to use water wisely as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) tunnel systems inspection and maintenance will take place from 1 October until 30 November.

The department released a statement in mid-September which said that the maintenance takes place every 10 years or when needed to ensure that the conveyance system continues to operate optimally.

During the next 60 days, no water will be transferred from Lesotho Highlands Water Project to the Vaal water system. The shutdown period will affect different provinces, but the department said Gauteng should not have any water shortages, as contingency plans have been put in place to continue the supply of water, uninterrupted.
