Taking the zoo to Bryanston Library

BRYANSTON – Johannesburg Zoo takes the Zoo to You educational outreach programme to Bryanston Library aimed at teaching young learners about different animals.

Bryanston Library is expecting a special visit from Johannesburg Zoo on 30 September. The visit is part of the Zoo to You Educational Outreach programme to raise awareness about the rich biodiversity in Johannesburg.

The visit targets younger members of the Bryanston Library, however, all members are welcome to join and learn more about wildlife. Members of the Johannesburg Zoo will bring along species of small mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo spokesperson Jenny Moodley explained, “These programmes are for reaching out. They help to foster more caring citizens that are equipped to protect and respect animals and the environment. It has been found that children that have had close, controlled encounters with a snake are less likely to kill these creatures if found lurking in their gardens.”

Moodley added that the Zoo to You initiative forms part of the Masimbambisane Programme aimed at accommodating children and young learners who cannot afford the R40 entry ticket to the zoo.

After the Zoo to You Programme, Bryanston Library will be open to the public, offering various books for all ages. Citizens who wish to become members of the library are required to bring along their ID and proof of residence.

Hoping to keep readers up to date with the latest books on the market, the library has a new programme – Friends of Bryanston Library – which holds a book sale at the library on the first Saturday of every month from 9am to 1pm.
