Varsity College tees it up

SANDTON – IIE Varsity College Sandton takes part in the USSA golf tournament hosted in Port Elizabeth.

 


The IIE Varsity College Sandton golf team took part in the annual University Sport of South Africa (USSA) tournament which was hosted by Nelson Mandela University at the Humewood Golf Club in Port Elizabeth.

Varsity College had two teams made up of players from six of the national campuses and competed in the A and B division.

The golfers put in a solid performance despite the wind blowing from all directions. Team A was positioned fourth in the stroke play competition, which saw them qualify for the quarter-finals against North West University which they won. They came up against the Tuks B side in the semi-final encounter. The golfers from Pretoria were better on the day as they managed to beat Varsity College.

In the B division, Varsity College made it to the quarter-finals where they fell short to Maties and eventually finished sixth.

Three Varsity College players were recognised at the end of the tournament. Alexander Krebs, a second year Bachelor of Commerce student was named in the top three most valuable player in match play. Jason Broomhead, a first year Bachelor of Commerce student and Jonathan Broomhead in his third year of commerce, both came fourth in the individual stroke play.
