City of Joburg goes on debt rehabilitation education drive

MIDRAND – The City will embark on the debt rehabilitation programme hoping to bring some relief and change in residents of the city.


The City of Johannesburg council recently approved the debit rehabilitation programme that aims to assist defaulting customers get back in good standing with their municipal accounts. 

The debt relief will only be given to households that meet certain criteria which include:

Customers who meet the criteria will receive an immediate 50 per cent debt write-off, the outstanding debt can be written off if they comply with all the conditions of the programme. The account holders would need to keep their current accounts up to date during a three year period and allow for inspection of metered services.
