Don’t miss: Ward 109 residents have opportunity to elect new ward councillor
SANDTON – The elections will take place on 24 July from 7am to 9pm.
Residents of Ward 109 in Sandton will have the opportunity to participate in an upcoming by-election to elect their new ward councillor.
Ward 109 includes areas of Morningside Manor, Wendywood, Kelvin, Eastgate and Marlboro. The by-elections are necessary to elect a new ward councillor following former ward councillor Werner Smit’s resignation in April this year and it will take place on 24 July.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced that Ward 109 would be one of four wards in Johannesburg to host by-elections on the day.
It is important to note that it is a criminal offence for a person to register and vote in a ward which is not where they typically live. Voters may also check and update their details at their municipal IEC office on weekdays during office hours.
Voting will be taking place at the Ernest Ullman Recreation Centre, Wendywood High School, Marlboro Gardens Combined School, Nokuthula Centre and St Johannes Lutheran Church.
Voters need to ensure they have their their identity document with them. This can be either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid temporary ID certificate. They will also need to complete their physical home address during registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence. Documented proof of address such as a municipal account is not required.
Special voting will take place at voting stations as well as through home visits on 23 July between 8am and 5pm.
The elections will take place on 24 July, from 7am to 9pm.
