Youth Entrepreneurship Programme celebrates top graduate

BRYANSTON – The Innovator Trust celebrated Zanele Ndebele, who was the top achiever in the Young Entrepreneurship Programme.

The Innovator Trust, based in Bryanston, recently awarded its top students from the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme (Yep).

The programme is aimed at equipping local unemployed youth with the skills to become cutting-edge entrepreneurs. The tailor-made programme is designed to drive innovation and create job opportunities that could bring significant changes to the local economy. Nine young entrepreneurs graduated from the programme in Gauteng, and 27-year-old Zanele Ndebele, who is now employed in Bryanston, received a Top Achievement Award.

Ndebele made it through the rigorous selection process to participate in the programme and is focusing on her long-term goals. “I want to open an events company that can handle all types of events, from corporate to personal.”

Among the business training she received during the programme, Ndebele learned how to develop an idea, business model and event company business plan. She was afforded the opportunity to manage the event requirements for the graduation ceremony for the programme.

Ndebele added, “Creativity and discipline is needed for future business and Yep equipped me in developing my skills, confidence and marketing business, and how to be business-minded.” She said that some of the industry-specific learnings she gained from the programme included time-management skills, organisational skills, and effective communication.

“We have different skills and you have to use them all together, you can’t use only one skill at a time. I’ve learned that I should arrive hours ahead of clients and guests. Yep also taught me to communicate with suppliers and attendees and to be efficient in projects.”

Despite assisting with the graduation event, it came as a surprise to Ndebele to hear her name being called as a Yep Top Achiever.

“It was an honor to graduate and I’m so proud of myself,” she said.

Since the programme has now come to an end Ndebele said that she plans to study further and learn as much as she can about business administration and business management. “I want to gain more experience and become a successful entrepreneur,” she concluded.
