SANDTON – Captain Granville Meyer from the Sandton Police Station revealed some of the crime trends in various suburbs over the past week.


The Sandton Police Station has highlighted some of the crime trends within the Sandton area.

In Sector 1, which covers Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead, burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles were the biggest contribution to crime.

Captain Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the station said most places of interest are shopping centres and in most incidents, the doors were forced open and electronics were the point of target. Targeted suburbs include Edenburg, Rivonia, and Woodmead, where incidents took place between 12pm and 7pm.

In Sector 2, which covers Brecknock, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill, Paulshof, Rietfontein and Riverclub, burglaries were the main contribution in the sector. In most incidents, the doors were forced open and electronic equipment was targeted. These incidents took place between 7am and 9pm on Monday and Wednesday. The most targeted suburb was Bryanston.

In Sector 3, the main crimes committed were theft out of motor vehicles and robbery. This sector includes Benmore Gardens, Dalecross, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurl Park, Little Filian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon, Sunset Acres, Panners Lane and Kingswood Crescent. Meyer said most incidents occurred at places of interest between 7am and 11pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

In Sector 4, which includes Buccleuch, Lower Gallo Manor, Eastgate, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park, car hijackings contributed most to these areas, people were followed and robbed of their vehicles. These incidents to place between 7am and 12pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
