HYDE PARK – Student depicts poverty through art.

Seth Flaum a Grade 10 learner at Hyde Park High is making a name for himself in art circles.

He recently had one of his works published in South Africa’s leading visual arts publication, the Art Times April 2019 Edition.

Flaum’s published art was stippled pencil on paper. He wanted to depict the hardships and struggles of life on the street and interviewed the man that passes his home recycling rubbish. “My aim was to depict the man’s facial expressions, conveying the struggle of surviving life on the street.”

Avril Wright, the school’s communications secretary, said that Flaum was very proud to have his artwork published in such a prestigious magazine.

The school will be holding an art exhibition showcasing all the learners at the school’s art works on 16th May from 6.30pm to 8pm at the school’s Thurman Hall and everyone is invited.

The art department is extremely proud of the high standard that will be on exhibition. For more information contact the school office on 011 447 2281.
