Crime trends in Sandton over the first week of April

SANDTON – Captain Granville Meyer from the Sandton Police Station revealed some of the crime trends in various suburbs over the past week.


The Sandton Police Station has highlighted some of the crime trends within the Sandton area during the first week of April.

In Sector 1, which covers Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead theft out of motor vehicles and burglaries were the biggest contribution to crime. Captain Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, said that motor vehicles were broken into while parked at places of interest. In the burglary incidents, doors were forced open to gain access to homes.

Targeted suburbs include Woodmead, Sunninghill and Edenburg. These incidents took place on Monday and Wednesday between 6 am and 8 pm.

In Sector 2, which covers Brecknock, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill and Paulshof, Petervale, Rietfontein and Riverclub, robbery with a firearm was the main source of crime. In most incidents, the victims were stationary at the robots. Suspects were a group of two males, targeting jewellery.

These incidents took place between 4am to 8am. Targeted suburbs include Bryanston and Paulshof. These incidents primarily took place on Monday and Thursday.

In Sector 3, the main crime committed was theft out of motor vehicles. Sector 3 includes Benmore Gardens, Dalecroos, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurlpark, Little Fillian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon and Sunset Acres.

Meyer said most incidents occurred at places of interest. These incidents mainly took place between 4pm and 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

In Sector 4, which includes Buccleuch, Lower Gallo Manor, Eastgate, Kelvin, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park, theft out of a motor vehicle was the primary crime committed. In most incidents, the doors and windows of the vehicles were forced open. These incidents took place on Tuesday and Thursday between 12pm and 4pm and 8pm and 12am.
