Sandton crime trends for last week of March revealed

SANDTON – Sandton Police Station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer revealed crime trends in the area.

The Sandton Police Station has highlighted some of the crime trends within the Sandton area during the last week of March.

In Sector 1, which covers Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead theft out of motor vehicles was the biggest contribution to crime. Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said that motor vehicles were broken into while parked at places of interest.

Targeted suburbs include Woodmead, particularly Eike Lane and Waterfall Street, Sunninghill on Leewkop Road and Navaisha Road as well as Rivonia Road and in Edenburg, on the corner of Rivonia Boulevard and Mutual Street. These incidents took place on Thursday and Friday between 8am and 4pm.

In Sector 2, which covers Brecknock, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill and Paulshof, Petervale, Rietfontein and Riverclub, theft out of motor vehicles, robbery with a firearm and residential burglaries were the main source of crime.

These incidents took place between 4am to 8am and 4pm to 8pm. Targeted Suburbs include Bryanston on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Grosvenor Road and Klevehill on the corner of Witkoppen Road and Estelle Road. These incidents primarily took place on Wednesday and Sunday.

In Sector 3, the main crimes committed included armed robberies, burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles. Sector 3 includes Benmore Gardens, Dalecroos, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurlpark, Little Fillian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon and Sunset Acres.

Meyer said most incidents occurred on the corner of Rivonia Road and 5th and West streets. These incidents mainly took place between 12pm and 4pm on Fridays.

In Sector 4, which includes Buccleuch, Lower Gallo Manor, Eastgate, Kelvin, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park, robberies were the primary crimes committed. The majority of the victims were targeted while stationary at a traffic light at Edison Street in Wendywood and West Way in Kelvin. These incidents took place on Monday and Saturday between 12pm and 4pm.
