Sandton police reveal crime trends in the area

SANDTON – The Sandton Police Station shares crime trends in the various policing sectors.


The Sandton Police Station revealed some of the crime trends they have taken note of in the various sectors covered by the police station.

In Sector 1, which covers Edenburg, Gallo Manor, Khyber Rock, Rivonia, Sunninghill, Woodlands and Woodmead, residential burglaries were the main contributor to the crime statistics in the sector. Suspects primarily targeted laptops and cell phones during these crimes. Woodmead was identified as the most targeted suburb with crimes primarily being committed between 12pm and 4pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

In Sector 2, which covers Brecknock, Bryanston, Klevehill Park, Lonehill and Paulshof, Petervale, Rietfontein and Riverclub, house robberies were the main crimes committed. According to Captain Granville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, in most incidents, the suspects threatened victims with firearms and demanded their belongings. Suspects primarily targeted electronic equipment and cash.

The suburbs that were targeted in Sector 2 included Bryanston and Paulshof, particularly Umfolosi Road. The crimes mostly took place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

In Sector 3, the main crimes committed included armed robberies, burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles. Sector 3 includes Benmore Gardens, Dalecroos, Dennehof, Duxberry, Hurlingham, Hurlpark, Little Fillian, Moodie Hill, Morningside, Morningside Manor, Morningside Ext 40, New Brighton, Parkmore, Sandown, Sandhurst, Strathavon and Sunset Acres.

Meyer said in most incidents of armed robberies in Sector 3, the victims were talking on their cell phones and were targeted by two to four men. With regard to theft out of motor vehicles, in most incidents, the doors were forced open or the windows were broken. These incidents occurred mostly at shopping centres and the suspects primarily targeted electronic equipment.
Morningside and Sandown, particularly Rivonia Road and 5th and West streets were the targeted areas for burglaries. These incidents mainly took place between 8am and 12pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

In Sector 4, which includes Buccleuch, Lower Gallo Manor, Eastgate, Kelvin, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park, residential robberies were the primary crimes committed. The majority of these crimes took place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12pm and 4pm and 2pm to midnight.
