Brescia House learner has the opportunity to showcase her art

BRYANSTON – Taeya Dukes had the opportunity to show off her art in a two-page magazine spread.

A learner from Brescia House had the opportunity to display her art in a double-page spread in the SA Art Times magazine.

The magazine launched an initiative for Grade 10, 11 and 12 art pupils to have their works of art published in the magazine and on their network of readers and gallery owners. This is a wonderful opportunity for high school learners to have their art showcased, and also to see the work of other further education and training phase learners in the country. Brescia House learner, Taeya Dukes, had her work selected for the February 2019 edition. It was also given a double-page spread.

Taeya said about her work,” In the work, I have chosen to do the edge of reason. The right and left side of the brain work very differently, the left being the logical and reasoning side, the right being the emotional and creative side. In the work, both of these aspects are portrayed to help show their differences. We all are a combination of both, although in varying proportions.

“Reason is seen on the left side of the work; the constellations. The straight lines of the constellations show that reason is based on facts and justification and has a boundary. The emotional side of us is seen on the right side of the work in which each flower represents a different emotion. The flowers bloom and open up which is similar to how our emotions work.”
