The former South African best cricket player and the current head coach of Bizhub Highveld Lions and Jozi Stars Enoch Nkwe paid a special visit to the Alex XI schools cricket club training session at the Alex Oval Cricket Stadium.
The visit came at a crucial time for Alex XI cricket team which comprises 15 young cricketers from different local schools. The team will be playing in the semi-finals of the Montrose Night Challenge on 8 March at Montrose Primary School.
Nkwe said he was extremely optimistic with the future of cricket in the country after his interaction with the youngsters.
“I came here to lend a helping hand in shaping and polishing the skills of these promising young stars. One of the strengths I picked from these youngsters was that they have a strong communication skill which is usually a challenge for many teams and even us, the adults,” Nkwe said
“In two weeks’ time, these youngsters will be playing in the semi-finals of the Montrose Night Challenge. We want to help them do the right thing in the right way. Those fundamentals and basics will crucial when they face their opponents.”

The 12-year-old batsman, Gomolemo Phiri, said he learned that opportunities usually come once in a lifetime and that it should be utilised wisely.
“I learned a lot from today’s training session as a batsman. Coach Nkwe taught us the importance of grabbing opportunities with both hands when they come. During our interaction with Nkwe, I saw myself in the Proteas squad,” Gomolemo said.
