SANDTON – A picture showing the Johannesburg Metro Police Department escorting Alph Lukau to church has surfaced after the pastor was seen resurrecting a man back to life.

Following public outrage on what seems to be the police escorting Alph Lukau, the JMPD has decided to distance itself from the saga by stating, “JMPD wants to clear the air that the escorting of a church minister occurred in 2017, and this was before Chief David Tembe took over. After Chief Tembe was inaugurated, he made it clear that the escorting of church ministers and the escorting of private individuals will not happen again.”

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba in a statement said that at the time, it had emerged from the previous administration and the then JMPD leadership that had allowed for a policy, whereby, members of the public could hire a JMPD escort at a cost.

“On discussion with Chief Tembe, the practice was immediately subjected to review. Currently, provision is only made for JMPD to provide traffic management services at funerals or specialised events”.
