Kelvin keeps it clean

KELVIN – Community members gathered at the Meadway Sports Club to help clean up.

Kelvin residents gathered in their numbers to take part in the first A Re Sebetseng clean-up of the year at their local park.

Members of the Kelvin Residents Association, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo and the A Re Sebetseng team gathered at the Meadway Sports Club to help clean up a part of their suburb.

The clean-up initiative was started by Mayor Herman Mashaba in 2017 and aims at encouraging community members to take pride in their own community and play an active role in keeping it clean. Community members in Kelvin have committed to this idea and play an active role in ensuring that their community’s public spaces are kept clean.

Phindi Lethoko, the regional coordinator for the A Re Sebetseng clean-ups in Region E said that the first clean-up had been successful and a huge difference could be seen in the park afterwards.

The overgrown grass was cut down and litter was picked up by both young and old residents who participated in the clean-up.

The monthly clean-ups take place on the third Saturday of each month at locations throughout the city. Residents, community groups and residents associations who would like to get involved are welcome to call Phindi Lethoko on 011 582 1452 for more information.
