Hyde Park High School science Olympiad champion

SANDTON – A Grade 12 at Hyde Park High School was recently selected to represent South Africa in Israel.

A Grade 12 and head senior counsellor at Hyde Park High School was recently selected to represent South Africa in the International Physics Olympiad.

Reece Govender took part in the Physical Science Olympiad in August last year. Govender did so well in the physics section of the Olympiad that he was invited by the National Physical Science Olympiad organisers in January to be part of the team that represents South African in the International Physics Olympiad that will be held in Israel this year in July.

Govender expressed his excitement about this recognition and is hard at work preparing for the next round. The event in Israel will involve both written and practical components, competing against the best young scientists around the world.

The school’s communications secretary Avril Wright said,

“We are extremely proud of Govender and wish him every success in his preparation to qualify to be at this very prestigious event.”
