Upgrades at the Sandton Sports Club

SANDTON – Renovations are underway at the Sandton Sports Club with a new guardhouse under construction.

Construction has started to build a new guardhouse at the Sandton Sports Club after the old one was damaged by high winds.

Last year Gia Sinclair of the Sandton Sports Club said plans were underway to build a new guard house as reported in Sandton Chronicle in the article, New guardhouse needed, Week ending 16 November.

She has now confirmed that construction has started at the entrance of the club and the whole plan and design of the entrance will change.

“Parking has always been a concern and the entrance will be changed to a separate entrance and exit and it has been designed with a two-lane entrance to help ease the flow.”

The guardhouse will be in the middle of the entrance and the guards will be able to monitor the entrance.

She added that they have laid the electricity for the house which will have ablution facilities and electricity supply for the radios, controls, and sirens.

“There will be much stricter access with the use of booms,” she said.

Sinclair said their mandate is to uplift and upgrade the club. “The purpose of the upgrades to the entrance and guard hut is the functionality, safety, and aesthetics of the area.”

The upgrades are expected to be completed within a few months, and will also include upgrades to the waste facilities.

Sinclair said there are still logistics that need to be completed such as ordering and installing the gates and the booms.
