Meet Captain Khumalo

SANDTON – The Captain Khumalo puppet aims to teach children about safety in a comforting manner.

Sandton Police spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer is ready to start travelling to schools around Sandton with his crime-fighting puppet Captain Khumalo to educate children about safety.

Meyer explained that the Captain Khumalo programme is designed to educate primary schoolchildren who are between the age of three and 12 about a range of safety themes. The programme also seeks to encourage children to turn to the police for help and advice.

The puppet is a trustworthy character for young children and addresses a variety of safety issues that children may face. The purpose of the Captian Khumalo talks is driven by a crime prevention approach.

Last year, Meyer and Captain Khumalo saw over 5 000 primary schoolchildren. Teachers who would like to invite Captain Khumalo to their school can contact Captain Granville Meyer on meyerG2@saps.gov.za
