Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

SANDTON – The suspect was arrested following a crime combatting patrol in the CBD.

A 33-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition by the crime combatting team in Sandton Central Business District on 11 January.

The police officers were on patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with three occupants. The vehicle was pulled over and two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and managed to get away. The driver of the vehicle was arrested. A 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition was seized in the vehicle.

The suspect was detained at the Sandton Police Station on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and were expected to appear in court on 14 January.
